Details

  • Airport pickup (if applicable) at MAD by a program director.

  • Walking tour of Madrid de los Austrias (Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and Palacio de Oriente), the historic city center of Madrid built during the 1500 to 1700s.

  • Enjoy a welcome dinner with typical Spanish foods.

  • Guided tour of the world-famous Prado Museum viewing works by Goya, El Greco, and Velázquez.

  • Picnic lunch in the sprawling El Retiro, Madrid's very own Central Park. Relax and row in the "Estanque", the large pond in the middle of the park.

  • Visit to the National Archaeological Museum (MAN) at Plaza Colón, the best introduction to the history of the Iberian peninsula since the Stone Age.

  • Visit to the Palacio Real de Oriente, Madrid's Royal Palace, housing an impressive Stradivarius collection.

  • Take in the immensity and emotion of Picasso's "Guernica" painting, housed in the Reina Sofia Museum which has modern art and rotating interactive exhibits.

  • Time for experiencing the shops on Madrid's 5th Avenue, the lively Gran Via.

  • Travel to Toledo (if attending the four day excursion), the medieval capital of Spain that allowed the three religions to briefly coexist and enjoy a day packed full of history.

  • Airport drop-off at MAD or transfer to Granada.
