Arrive in Heredia and meet your homestay. You will enjoy homemade meals to fully experience the Costa Rican diet and cooking traditions which is essential to learning about the country's healthy lifestyle and the population's longevity.

The orientation excursion is at Ark Herb Farm where you will learn about medicinal plants and spend the day at the largest botanical garden in Costa Rica.

Start the week by learning about Costa Rica's world-famous universal healthcare system.

Receive a Medical Spanish class to learn key vocabulary and anatomy to better serve Spanish-speaking patients.

Participate in 2 days of hands-on medical workshops including vital signs, emergency medicine, and injections. 

Tour a University Medical School and hospital simulation labs.

Visit the Heredia Hospital with a guided tour by their Chief of Pediatrics and Newborn Unit.

Engaging afternoon activities include a Heredia city tour and food tasting, a traditional Costa Rican cooking class, and visiting small-batch organic chocolate producer where you will make your own chocolate. 

Visit a wildlife rescue center see sloths, toucans and monkeys and learn about their veterinary and rehabilitation practices.

Explore the rainforest at the foot of Arenal volcano. Experience the thrill of a zipline tour and hike to one Costa Rica's most iconic waterfall and swim in its waters. Enjoy evening hot springs.
