Choose your Summer 2026 Program!
Buenos Aires, often called the Paris of South America, offers an ideal setting for this art-focused program. Art workshops focus on drawing and printmaking skills and techniques led by a local artist. To enrich your overall study abroad experience, this unique program also includes morning Spanish classes. During the first week of art workshops, students will sketch, draw, transfer their designs to wood, carve, apply paint, and print on paper. The second week builds upon these foundations by incorporating color into the printmaking process. This Arcos journey emphasizes creativity over technical expertise. Additionally, weekday afternoons are complemented by cultural activities, many of which are art-related, such as a pottery workshop and mural tours. Weekends are dedicated to exciting excursions to explore regional highlights like the El Tigre River Delta and Colonia, Uruguay. Bring your desire to learn, create, and engage, and let Arcos handle the rest!

Buenos Aires, a renowned artistic hub, has long attracted painters and artists, boasting world-class collections of classic and modern paintings and influencing major stylistic innovations. During the 1920s and 1930s, a group known as 'artistas del pueblo' pioneered various printing techniques, especially xylography. Living and working in the former working-class neighborhood of La Boca, their art was deeply connected to the social movements of the era, with woodcut printmaking offering an accessible art form for the masses. This workshops aim to transport you back in time to understand this artistic movement, observe and discuss key artworks, and then venture 'into the field'—the vibrant La Boca neighborhood, a major tourist attraction—to explore its emblematic areas.
In the first week, you'll create sketches and drawings, bring them back to the workshop, transfer them to wood, carve, apply printing paint, and produce black and white prints. The second week builds on this by adding color, creating matrices, and layering color prints over the initial black and white versions. The art workshop, fully equipped for large-scale wood prints, is located in La Boca and led by a local artist, university professor, and atelier director. The program also includes visits to various parts of Buenos Aires and local museums. No prior artistic experience is required, and workshops are held in the afternoons for three hours each, over six days.
