Electives are only offered for students who stay for the 3 week Summer I session or the 4 week Summer II session. Electives run the full 3 weeks or full 4 weeks. If a student comes for a 2 week session they will not complete the content.

Take Spanish classes weekday mornings at the University of Oaxaca's Language Department.
Enjoy cultural activities in the afternoons to experience the very best of Oaxaca.
Live with a homestay for a total immersion experience.
Embark on weekend excursions to the Monte Albán archaeological site, Hierve el Agua mountain springs, and Teotitlán del Valle artisan village.
Airport transfers (SJO) are provided by a program director.
Immerse yourself in authentic Oaxacan life by living with a carefully selected homestay, conveniently located within a 20-30 minute walk of the school. Each home, matched to your interests and preferences, typically hosts two to three students. All houses have Wifi.
Savor the rich flavors of Oaxacan culinary traditions with authentic meals prepared by your host family, offering a true taste of local culture.
Take Spanish classes at the University of Oaxaca and earn a university transcript. Class times are M-F 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (Summer I - June) and 9:00 AM to 1:15 PM (Summer II - July) . All sessions include a mid-morning break.
Participate in engaging afternoon activities designed to deepen your understanding of Mexican culture and the unique heritage of Oaxaca. Activities include a hands-on traditional cooking class, guided city tours, visits to local museums, and art workshops such as painting alebrijes (wooden folk art) and printmaking.
For a different cultural experience, volunteer with elementary school children at an education center as one of the activities.
Explore the diverse highlights of Oaxaca on weekend excursions, visiting neighboring indigenous villages, pre-Hispanic ruins, and places of stunning natural beauty and historical significance.
Climb the ancient structures at Monte Albán archaeological site followed by a delicious buffet lunch at Hacienda Cuilapán.
Trek through the pine forest of the Sierra Norte mountains and experience the thrill of a zipline, or hike the trails of Hierve El Agua and refresh yourself in the crystal-clear mountain spring waters. Oaxaca has something for everyone. Prepared to be inspired!
Morning: Breakfast with your homestay and walk to Spanish class.
Midday: Enjoy lunch and siesta at your homestay. Lunch is the main meal in Mexico.
Afternoon: Cultural activities and free time.
Evening: Dinner at homestay, relax, and a get a good night's sleep. Dinner in Mexico is a lighter affair.
